The Hitomi turns on, instead of breaking, when Deidara throws it against a tree. Maybe it didn't want to break. But it turns on and it lands and there's Deidara, back to the device, shaking with a desperate sort of fury. And he unleashes hell on the landscape around him.
The whole thing is lit up with fire and shattered with shrapnel, and what the explosions miss the shockwaves claim, pushing down trees and making the water nearby shiver until Deidara starts working on that too, making it bubble and hiss and evaporate, the steam and the smoke mixing until there's no difference.
Deidara is angry, furious, and when he turns there's confusion--maybe fear--in his eyes. The next explosion can't be seen, but it takes the tree the Hitomi is leaning against out, and that finally smashes it.
When the Hitomi clicks on again--it's repaired itself--there is little more than a crater where Deidara is, just burned grass and dirt and rocks. Deidara's in the middle.
He's on the ground. His eyes look dead.
