For those of you that didn't notice my away message (and not that you are going to read this and care if you missed that!) but I made it to Fairfield safely. There were a few issues in getting here though. I was going to stop by and see
itsyspy70 but I got out of Irvine late and we decided she wouldn't have time since she already had other things planned. This was fortunate because as I approached the Tejon pass I noticed a lot of CDF trucks, and regular red fire Engines, heading up the hill. Turns out there was a big fire at the Tejon pass, on both sides of the road. They started funnelling us off 5 onto 168, but before I got off the freeway the CHP decided that we drive through the fire, and so they took us up the rest of the hill to the pass at about 40 with a CHP car in the front with his lights on. The fire was on both sides of the road, but it looked like they might have already had it under control since there were guys on all sides of it (so it looked to me anyway). After that I was flying good through the rest of the Grapevine and down into the Valley. Since I wasn't going to Fresno, I just headed up 5. When I got to the first rest area, I took a little break for the bladder and the knee, and then drove on. Stopped in Kettleman City for fuel, and headed on. Made a record third stop right before the 580/5 Interchange, and headed on through Stockton and onto 12. Then the traffic stops completely. Sat there for about 20 minutes before moving on and seeing that some chick had run off the road into the rice patties. She looked like she was ok, but the car was about 6 feet below the surface of the road. Then we get up further and I see 4 cars that piled into a long box van with a lift gate. Made it the rest of the way home without incident, but was an exciting drive what with a "forest" fire and two accidents within 500 ft of each other.
Love to all
