Hmm. Your lines were less inspirational than I thought they'd be. :( I messed around with a bunch, but this was the only one I thought was halfway decent, and I'm still not sure I'm satisfied with it.

A different Spike rescue:

The walk back home is long, forged in a lumbering, unsteady gait. Spike's weight hangs heavy between them as they half-drag, half-carry him back to his crypt. Barely conscious, his head lolls to the side, coming to rest on Xander's shoulder, and it's then that Xander realizes just how injured Spike must be.

With some careful maneuvering, they manage to get him splayed out on the sarcophagus. Giles glances at Spike like he's changed his mind, like he wishes they had just staked him back at Glory's apartment.

Xander meets the Watcher's eyes and shakes his head. "Let him be."

Oooh, I like that! It actually never occurred to me how or who took Spike back to his crypt after that serious thrashing from Glory. He looked way worse off there than he did after Showtime.

I really like Xander's sort of pitying compassion, that it's him to keep Giles at bay. I always smile a bit when Xander is able to overcome his own shortcomings.

Thanks! :) There's a line from the episode where Xander says he and Giles took Spike back to his crypt, but it always struck me as interesting that Giles' attitude is pretty much, "He's only alive because we haven't had a chance to get information out of him yet," whereas Xander's actually genuinely sympathetic. It's moments like that where I can almost (almost!) see where the Spander stuff comes from.

If you're curious, the other drabbles I tried to make something out of were:

Window-Dressing (Spike in the Bronze in School Hard)
Call It Closure (Buffy jumping off the tower)
Show Me How (Faith... I didn't actually get any farther than that, but "fucking was like fighting" just seems very Faith to me)

Okay, here's another one. I feel like this scene is way overplayed, but it's pretty much the first thing that comes to mind with this prompt.

The room buzzes with kinetic energy, vibrations conducting through the floor, jumping from body to body so that his chest pounds like he still has a pulse. He skirts the edge of the dance floor, slipping through the crowd with ease, his eyes trained on her. Oblivious, she dances with her friends, hypnotizing him with the back and forth of her hips.

His skin tingles with anticipation; he needs to see her in action, see if she can really dance.

Scanning the crowd for his minion, his tongue slides across his lower lip, and he can already taste her blood.

Sorry, I've never posted to your LJ, but being short, this struck me:

Being short had its drawbacks, not the least of them is trying to see through a tight crowd toward a stage only fifteen feet away. The "New Crew (Xander's moniker, TM Pending)" wanted to see Panic at the Disco and Giles broke with an entertainment stipend she'd never been offered. There's an inordinate amount of resentment at both the freedom and the money these new girls have been allowed. That tall guy who's had seven or eight too many right in front of her isn't helping. At all.

Suddenly, Buffy's up on Vi's shoulders and, though initially startled, the dark mood is lifted. It's embarrassing and exhilarating, but the boys are pretty cute and Dawn forces a cold beer into the hand clutching Vi's left shoulder, and Buffy feels young for the first time in a long time.

Hey, no problemo. All of my entries are unflocked so that people can just stumble on in. The more the merrier. And very cool that you took a swing at the drabble challenge! I really enjoyed this. It was a creative use of the line and a situation that I could certainly see Buffy being very unhappy in. My favorite Buffy fic moments are when she's faced with mundane, everyday things and has to struggle to get through them.

Great detail about the money now available as a result of the reformed Watchers Council. Money was always such a hardship for Buffy. It certainly would be a point of resentment.

And I love that Vi rescues her and turns the frown upside down. I could just see her weaving back and forth perched on top of her. It must make Buffy feel young again. Carefree youth rather cruelly passed her by.

Great job!
