Things are better today, saner. SR was having the same shit kind of night and afternoon that I add, so our metaphysics-chatting coterie headed to her apartment, drank white wine, shared stupid stories, and then ended up talking about textual support for Calvinism. Does anyone know a source for the claim that Protestants are the "new Jews, bound by belief instead of blood"? It sounds vaguely familiar, but somehow apocryphal like something a NY Times freelancer would coin and then get castigated for in the "Letters" section in the next week's magazine. After the others left, SR and I talked about Matt and missing people, guilt and scrimping, grattitude and saving. I got home so late that I skipped my Spinoza seminar (which is kind of disappointing anyway), and then came to campus for coffee hour to fulfill my pledge that I will leave my apartment once a day for a significant amount of time. And today's the kind of spring day that both makes me pine for Ithaca and makes me glad that I've moved on.
