Fun with history

So there's this book series that's aimed so squarely at my id that even the stuff that really I should be critical of (info dumps and all) just slide right on past me. But I read a review of the series recently that complained about the fact that this urban fantasy series went way overboard with the historical characters. No, books by Karen Chance. But tell me about these other books. Is there other history fangirling books I should be reading?

(Also: I'm adding the history fangirling/crossover for REASONS to my list of evidence that the author I was speaking of spent some time in fandom.)

ETA: Huh, that's the Discovery Of Witches writer? Man, that's so funny, because I couldn't finish that book. It really did not agree with me.

Yes! A Discovery of Witches! That's the one. I finished the first one, and it was fun for the first half, and then it got balls. I was going to try the second but then didn't care enough...

I kinda got through the first half, and then thought, "my god, this is basically twilight, but in academia," flipped through to the end, and never looked back.

The academia is what kept me reading, because that part was interesting, but then it just got balls. *shrugs*
