Coming to an end...

...the tour is. Tomorrow is the last day of shows. We have two daytime school trip shows and then a 7pm public show which has already sold 120 tickets. Our biggest public show turnout prior to this was 50 in Portland last Saturday, and before that was 20. Plus, Jose Cruz Gonzalez, the playwright, and Tomas Rivera's (whom the show is about) widow (who's name I know but cannot possibly spell) are going to be at the last show. Talk about amazing opportunity. The actors are nervous of course and I tried to reassure them at dinner this evening that they have nothing to worry about because their show is fabulous. We'll see if that helps. But it will already be an emotional/bittersweet show even without the special guests watching. I can't believe this tour is ending already. i can't believe that by Saturday evening I will be unemployed and back to the restaurant for awhile. I really like this company. I would love to tour with them again, and can only hope they think of me in a couple years when they're ready to send the next national tour out. Their mission statement is great (To create theatre so strikingly original in form, content or both, that it instills in young people an enduring awe, love and respect for the medium, thus preserving imagination and wonder, those hallmarks of childhood which are the keys to the future.) i've also watched and run this particular show over 150 times. It's definitely become my baby. And to think that by 8pm tomorrow night it will all be over. This leg of the tour has been so drastically different than the fall was, and i can only wish that i'd had these two actors on the fall tour. G and M were talented and nice, but it took a couple days on the road with my new actors to realize that they were also really high maintenance. D and I have become my friends over the last month and a half and I only wish I had more time to do this amazing show with them. Tomorrow will be a tough day that will result in significant alcohol consumption after load-out.
