But it has the best hotel EVER.
Check it out!The last 3 days have been awesomely refreshing. Thursday night after our load-out in kansas we drove 8 hours to Minneapolis where we stayed at the very nice Four Points by Sheraton. Most comfortable beds EVER! I totally didn't want to get out Monday morning. But I did and we had a day full of theatre going. We saw a matinee of "Average Family" at the Minneapolis Children's Theatre. It was god awful!!! The basis was a reality show where two "average" families compete to win an RV by living in the wilderness for 3 months-one family are the "white settlers" while the other plays the part of the Indians. It was unnecessarily violent and the acting was terrible, though the kids in the show were decent for kids. So after that flop we went and had dinner at a place Marcos had been to before called Chino Latino. It was really cool. As they put it, they serve food from around the equator; it's kind of Asian meets South American, and it's all designed to share. I had some really good potstickers and jerk chicken; Gina got Salmon rolls and spicy edamame; Marcos got the Asian Blossom chicken salad and these mongolian beef lettuce wraps. I didn't try and of Gina's food, but i did try the salad and lettuce wraps and it was all DELICIOUS!
After dinner we went to the new Guthrie Theatre for a performance of The Pillowman. The building is RIDICULOUS!!! It's huge (9 floors) and very interestingly designed. The architect went for a quasi-industrial look of the building since it's in an industrial area of downtown. And up on the 9th floor where the Studio theatre was there was a glassed in area where you could look out onto downtown. Very nice. And there's also something called the Endless Bridge that's basically this arm that juts out over the riverside and you can walk out on it and look out over the river. Very pretty at night. The show itself was very well done with one exception. For those unfamiliar with the show there are two brother's who are only supposed to be a year apart, but the actor they cast as the older brother looks a good 10 years older. The set was really cool though much more literal I think than PICT's production that I saw a couple years ago. It was interesting though to see the show again with someone who hadn't seen it before because it's a really dark, intense show.
Sunday we got comp tickets to see Brian Friel's new play The Homeplace. It's about an English Landlord in County Donnegal in 1878 and his relationships with the Irish girl who's been basically the head of his house since she was 14 (I'd guess she's about 30 now) and the Irish people. A very good show bringing up all sorts of thoughts about the English-Irish situation back then, colonization, and what "home" really means. After that we drove to Wausau, Wisconsin.
We were originally staying in another comfort inn kind of place here, but Gina did some research and found this place. It's been SO much fun! The rooms are really cute, and big; there's a restaurant/bar in the lobby so we've gotten to have a few drinks; and of course-the water park. I haven't been to a water park in years mainly due to lack of car and my intense hatred of bathing suits, but I figured it was going to be a great way to relax and have fun and couldn't pass that up out on the road. So I had a shot of Jose, got a blue moon from the bar and went down to the park. Ridiculous amounts of fun ensued. :-D We spent a whole 2.5 hours in there which is pretty amazing considering how small it is. Then we got showered and changed and went out for dinner in honour of Canadian Thanksgiving. We went to a local brewhouse and started out with the sampler platter of beers, of which there were 13! Already being quite buzzed, it was definitely a good time. And then we got to cook our own steaks!!!! They have a grill your own area where u go and pick out your steak, season it however you want and then throw it on the grill! There were also vegetables we sauteed, a nice salad bar and texas toast all included. It was so much fun!! And then since it was thanksgiving and all, we got a slice of pumpkin cheesecake to share, and Marcos told the waitress that in canada we put candles in the cake for thanksgiving...and she totally fell for it!!!! There she came with slice of cheesecake and lit candle on top! TOO funny!!! hahaha. All in all it was the best thanksgiving in YEARS! haha.
