When Merry staggered in the door to Bag End, stumbling against the hat rack, knocking two umbrellas down, Frodo trotted out to the front hall, sighing in dismay.
"I'm going to be sick," Merry groaned, holding his sleeve over his mouth. His breath reeked of ale.
"You needn't have done that," Frodo said, putting a firm arm around his waist. "You shouldn't have gone off."
Merry only groaned and sagged into Frodo's embrace, clutching one of Frodo's hands. "Dizzy..."
"Don't leave me again," Frodo whispered in his ear. "Not for any reason."
"I couldn't really," Merry said, turning his bloodshot eyes to meet Frodo's stern gaze.
Frodo kissed him, claiming him, if only for the rest of that night.
