I keep trying to listen to the hip radio stations that now exist--roughly the kind of radio I thought I wanted in high school. Something has changed. The booty rap stations are way better.

It's become the opposite of rock. They are terrified of the world. Even when they strike a nasty pose, you feel like they are scared shitless. They've been weaned on copies of copies of copies.

Perhaps the terrifying realization is that none of them had much to say in the first place, not ever.

or the opposite happens--i find all kinds of new value in duran duran that i didn't previously, either bc i was too young to 'get it' or because ensuing developments have endowed them with legitimacy
