Hmn...

We had a class on morals and ethics on children and teenagers, and when the teacher made the open question of who in the classroom wouldn't give their life for their friends... I was the only one to raise my hand.

Maybe I'm just a horrible person, or maybe half of my classmates lied?

*sigh*

People like to think that they are better people then they really are. They also have a tendency to romanticize things, and imagine that they would jump to the rescue of a good friend, risking themselves from life and limb.

Really, only way you can tell is putting yourself in that situation. Most people would probably save themselves, they just don't like to admit it to themselves. They like to think that in that situation they would become heroic and genuine. Most the time, I doubt it highly.

Good for you for thinking logically! :)

People are, by nature, selfish. This isn't mean - it's true. We have to make a conscious effort to put others first, which is why we fail so much at that. You were just being honest. I think that half of your classmates lied.
