SPRING BREAK
For me, this entails sitting in my room with the blinds down, hunched over my computer, scrounging the internet for summer jobs/internships, and eating copious amounts of cheese, bread, and zinc lozenges. Oh, and also doing Doctor Who things. And eventually studying for the Hebrew midterm I'll have when I get back.
So, first order of business: Blue Box Boy FINALLY made its way successfully into my grubby paws and I've spent the past week zipping through it. It was worth the wait and I highly recommend it for avid Who fans. I thought it was fun, entertaining, and charming but it still allowed itself to be serious when it needed to (like when Matthew explains his feelings about Adric's demise in Earthshock.) The third-person narrative actually works really well, since it allows him to make fun of himself more easily whenever he needs to and adds a delightful extra layer of fanboyishness on the first "episode" when he's chronicling his pre-Adric years.
On that note, I finally gave in and bought the E-Space Trilogy DVD box set (I know I did them here already, but those were Netflixed) because there was a Borders location closing down and I wanted to take advantage of their big discounts. I watched Full Circle with the commentary yesterday and was pleasantly surprised to hear them touch on a good number of things that I'd read about in the book, like the fact that the Marshmen were originally designed with genitalia before JNT vetoed it on the grounds that they couldn't show that on family television.
ALSO. THE SAFE HOUSE. I'd really like to work more on that while I'm here, but I can't guarantee anything. My schedule's still a bit weird and Who-writing priority had to go to my next Terrible Zodin article, but I'll see what I can do.
Audio Dramas
I started listening to the audiobook of the Black Orchid novel sometime last week (read by Michael Cochrane, who played Lord Cranleigh) and it's been puttering along at a nice easy pace. So far, everything's been following the events of the serial pretty closely but quadrupling their length (the cricket scene is something better watched than listened to, but hearing Tegan trying repeatedly to explain the rules to Adric and Nyssa and failing miserably is quite fun), but Terence Dudley did actually go back and fix a few plotholes and gave more scene development. Now we actually have a reasonable explanation for why Anne had two of her costume and Adric's dance-fail subplot gets more substance, amongst other things. Last I left off was near the middle of the story, so the Doctor's still wandering the halls (NOW THIS BIT REALLY DIDN'T NEED TO BE EXPANDED AS MUCH AS IT DID.)
Upcoming Commentaries
I'm in the middle of The Ice Warriors right now, which will be followed by Warriors of the Deep and then probably Enemy of the World, because I've been meaning to do both of those for a while (I have Tumblr friends who are always singing the praises of Salamander and his crew.)
