General News
An interesting note for any of my American followers using iTunes (I say American because I don't know if this is available in other countries): I've known for a while that they have a selection of Classic Who available for purchase through the iTunes Store, but I noticed recently that they also have some serials available that aren't even out on DVD yet. Since these are just the bare episodes without any of the bells and whistles (commentaries, packaging, featurettes, etc.) it's relatively cheep, too. Here's what all they've got:
The Aztecs
The Krotons*
Spearhead From Space
Terror of the Autons*
The Claws of Axos
The Three Doctors
Carnival of Monsters
The Mutants*
The Time Monster
The Green Death
The Time Warrior
Planet of the Spiders*
The Ark in Space
The Sontaran Experiment
Pyramids of Mars
The Hand of Fear
The Deadly Assassin
The Talons of Weng-Chiang
The Invisible Enemy
The Sun Makers*
Underworld
Creature From the Pit
The Key to Time (sans The Stones of Blood, for some reason)
Nightmare of Eden*
The Leisure Hive
Castrovalva
Kinda*
Time-Flight
Arc of Infinity
Snakedance*
Warriors of the Deep
Frontios*
Planet of Fire
The Caves of Androzani
Mark of the Rani
The Two Doctors
Time and the Rani
Ghost Light
*not yet available on DVD
I picked up Terror of the Autons, Kinda, and The Sun Makers and taking strong consideration into nabbing Planet of the Spiders next. The Terror of the Autons commentary probably won't be coming for a bit, since I want to do the whole Master season in one go. The Sun Makers might be a little earlier, though, because I need moar Leela in my life.
Anyway.
So I just got back from re-watching Human Nature and The Family of Blood (I've been meaning to do that since I finished the NA novel) with a few friends and some candy corn. And that's the only Halloween thing I did today. My childhood is crying right now.
Oh, and I saw a guy in a scarecrow mask on the way back to my dorm. What convenient timing o_O
This was Parent Visiting weekend so my mom came up (dad's busy with election stuff) and we watched a bit of spooky Classic Who together. She'd already seen most of Warriors' Gate (I'd decided to watch the DVD on the TV instead of on my computer that time) and The Five Doctors (which she actually asked to see), but this time I wanted to watch something I'd established beforehand as one of my personal favorites, so we did The Robots of Death. She thought it was fun and my friend Kelley spent a lot of the first episode geeking out over Leela's "barbarian girl" outfit.
Also I went down to the used bookstore in town and finally picked up their copy of Cat's Cradle: Time's Crucible because I keep hearing that it's One Of Those New Adventures That You Have To Read. So now I has it :D
I'm afraid to say the next chapter of The Safe House might be a while because I've got Srys Bznss coming up in Playwriting really soon. The first drafts of our one-act plays are due on the 15th, so I'll probably need to be writing about two pages a day for the next two weeks. I'll see how much of it can inch along, though.
Audio Dramas
The other day I discovered Big Finish's Short Trips podcast (which hasn't updated in almost a year) which posts little 20 minute readings and audio plays for free. There's only four things there right now, but one of them is a reading of a Two/Jamie/Zoe story by Nick Briggs in which Team Two goes to the beach and Zoe seems very keen on sticking things up Jamie's kilt. Like sand. And a crab. Also there's a tragedy but TEAM TWO AT THE BEACH! There was also a Bernice Summerfield short drama (this was my first audio exposure to her) that had her and a giant hamster crawling through mud tunnels (it's funnier than it sounds). I still need to listen to the 2-part Seven story.
Upcoming Commentaries
Seeing as I'm so close to finishing the Hartnell serials and Tumblr is making me quite Troughton-hungry, I'm going to go ahead and do The Ark next, followed by two serials I've been looking forward to for quite a while: The Celestial Toymaker and The Gunfighters. As a side-note, I've archived Real Time on the master list with Trial of a Time Lord because that's where Six's adventures with Evelyn would've taken place (in-between Peri and Mel, I mean).
