I might be jumping to conclusions, but I think I'm beginning to understand why the writers thought Katarina was "too limiting" a companion.
Sadly she had a lot of potential, but the time she comes from makes it hard for her to work. Besides the fact that she does't know things that we take for granted, her upbringing will lead to her reactions being rooted to her faith in the supernatural rather than in logic. James Moran must have used Katarina's way of seeing the world as inspiration when he created the characters from Fires of Pompeii, as they're all in a similar wavelength.
On the other hand, the problems from having a past companion were used as blueprint when Jamie joined the series, as the now famous "Jamieisms" were created to avoid the mistake of having to explain everything to him all the time.

I'm confused by Mavic Chen's alleged ethnicity. He looks like he's supposed to be black and Asian at the same time. Well, it IS the future.
I always though that was the case, yes. Why else would Kevin Stoney be made-up to make his skin so dark? *shrugs*

Mavic Chen has the strangest way of holding his pencil ever.
Stoney explains this in the Lost in Time DVD extras. He was so impressed with what the make-up artist did to his hands that he felt it was a waste for people not to notice it, and so made sure that Chen did some things with his hands in odd ways in order for the camera to focus on them as much as possible.

Brave Doctor is going in solo and...for some reason is patting Bret's chest a lot in this scene.
The possibility that One fancies Bret might please the Doctor/Brig shippers. :P

"It's all so convenient, isn't it?" Yes! We still have magnetic tape players in the future!
At the time this was made, magnetic tape was seen as the height of technology - it would make sense for people's vision of the future to include them.

The "daughter of the gods" speech gets me every time, regardless of how little we got of Katarina. I think the fanmix I made for her ages ago might have been a reaction to having my heartstrings tugged from hearing that.

Hello again SaraOH MY GOD YOU KILLED PRE-BRIG. I MEAN BRET.
It says a lot of Jean Marsh's acting skills that she's able to show regret from doing this just from the intonation when she tells her partner Bret is dead.

Looks like molecular dissemination is bouncy, trippy, loud, and strangely Doctor-less.
I was trying to find the picspam I made of the molecular dissemination scene, but was unsuccessful. I love that scene because, once you stop and think about how it was made, you realize it's probably one of the crackiest things ever made in the show. First, while Steven and Sara are showing pain, One is going "BLAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGHIMSOCRAZY!" And then, when you see them projected the psychedelic background, you realize they're jumping on a trampoline, and that Peter Purves is thinking "must not laugh must not laugh must not laugh..." I'm sure the reason why the Doctor doesn't appear in that bit is because Hartnell didn't like the idea of jumping on that thing. :P

MONK TIME, MOTHERBITCHES.
DAMN STRAIGHT.

Seriously, has anybody else noticed that there's been a slight shift to a more humorous tone in this second half?
Well, we ARE in Dennis Spooner land now.

So I wonder when this whole Mark 4/Type 40 thing got straightened out...
Deadly Assassin.

Why is it always the wasted-potential companions who die in Classic Who?

Ah, Brig/Doctor...somehow I forgot that that pairing exists. Probably because I just don't see a lot of it.

I was just listening to Dead Air last night and there was a great bit where Ten was talking about the progression of sound recording technology between the '60s and the 2000s and it made me wonder what's going to come after digital recording and mp3s.

Wait...they're actually jumping on a trampoline?

I don't have any actual proof that they're jumping on a trampoline, but the way they move in the scene leads me to believe it - if they were jumping on the floor, you'd see them bend and flex more than they do.

And I need to add this icon to the conversation since you've clearly alluded to it. :P
