General News

Sorry for the mysterious delay in 30 Day of Who, I've had a lot of stuff going on.

But.

GUYS. GUYS GUYS GUYS. GUESS WHAT HAPPENED.

Living in New York City means you can make regular visits to the most epic discount bookstore, a place called Strand. Lining the outside of this remarkable store are shelves and shelves of $1 books of all shapes, sizes, and subjects. At the very end of this line there sit two trolleys of 48-cent books. After a chance encounter in the rain last year which unearthed two Jeeves books from these trolleys, I learned to never underestimate them again.

Once again, my faith has paid off. I took a brief detour there on my way to pick up a birthday present for a friend yesterday and what do I happen to find in these bins?

Timewyrm: Genesys and the Target novel of Marco Polo.

They sit on my shelf now, right next to All-Consuming Fire (which I picked up for a CONSIDERABLY greater price at another used bookstore just around the corner from Strand). So now, after seeing them before, debating it, not getting them, and regretting it later, I FINALLY own an actual Target novelization of Doctor Who.

Still haven't finished Cold Fusion, but Seven has FINALLY shown up properly. At first I wasn't quite okay with his reaction to seeing Adric being of the "oh well, that's time travel for you," but then I realized that it was actually pretty in-character. Also, ever since Adric got that armor, I'd been hoping that SOMEONE would pull a Star Wars (you never forget your first sci-fi fandom) and make some remark along the lines of "aren't you a little short to be an adjudicator?" And it happened. And Seven said it. This made me happy. I am, so far, AMAZED at all the subtle innuendos that go on between Nyssa and Chris, mainly considering what I've read Chris does to women in later appearances. I'm even MORE amazed at how Tegan is able to walk around frozen landscapes in bare feet and not have to...you know...get something amputated for the most epic frostbite ever. Still waiting for Patience to be a character beyond "the mysterious mute girl the heroes found in a lab...oh wait...this sounds like quite a few anime plots..." Still, interested to see what they do with her.

Audio Dramas

Not much new here. Finished The Holy Terror, but made the awful mistake of listening to the ending on the subway where there was background noise. I think that probably lessened the impact a bit. Still, VERY remarkably well-done. I remain in awe at the fact that they were able to pull off such an intense and dramatic moment...with the presence of a Brooklyn-accented talking penguin. Only in the Whoniverse. Also listened to Embrace the Darkness, which was quite creepy (especially when they started taking people's eyes O___O). In the middle of Time of the Daleks right now and all I can say is.....Shakespeare-enthusiast Daleks. Truly their greatest ploy yet. Because Shakespeare. Still trying to figure out exactly what he has to do with all of this, but oh well, I guess I'll learn in due time.

Upcoming Commentaries

Considering I've got my next DVD coming tomorrow and I'm running very low on DVD time (camp and college starting again soon), I WAS going to do a short one-shot thing tonight, like K-9 and Company. Unfortunately, it turned out to be twice as long as I thought it would be, so I decided to opt for sleep tonight. Long story short: expect Keeper of Traken, Logogpolis, and Castrovalva over the course of this week.

So tired forever right now...
