Why do I feel like I'm giving up?

For those of you who don't know, I went to Ohio Northern for a little over 4 years for Early Childhood Education.  I realized that A) I couldn't do it, teach that is, and B) if I tried to continue I would never graduate.  So, much to my parents' displeasure I dropped out.  Between that and other, unrelated events, it was one of the worst periods of ( Read more... )

Okay so its been like forever since we talked but here on my thoughts,

Good for you! Good for you on quiting your teaching degree even though it was not what your parents wanted. I wanted to be a librarian but my mother went on and on and on about what a great teacher I would be and two years into the program I stayed not wanting to start over. Now I have a pretty piece of paper in a nice frame that just hangs on the wall. Its lovely. But I don't teach because I hate it. REALLY HATE IT! However I do homeschool my daughter so I guess that counts for something.

Culinary Arts!!!! Are you kidding? Think long and hard about this and job shadow a chef! My husband is an internationally ranked chef. He has competed Las Vegas, New York , England, France, and Sweden winning first or second everywhere. He graduated in 1996 from college and has yet to not work a 60 hour plus week or make more than 50K base salary. I hate his job. I tell everyone not to be a chef. My daughter loses her mind when her daddy actually gets to be home with her. Plus he smells like all the time no matter what. If that is what you want then go for it but be a pastry chef (good hours, medium pay) or something. Not that I am trying to discourage you at all if that is what you want to do attack it but make SURE first.

Okay, so I've already typed this out once but my connection went bye-bye :(

My parents were more upset that I was quitting "so far in" rather than that I was quitting teaching. My parents never pushed me or my two siblings into any one area, they just wanted us to go to and graduate from college.

As far as the culinary arts thing goes, I've never wanted to be a restaurant chef. For an externship it's fine but overall not for me. I like to cook dinner for family and myself but I'm more into making desserts and such. Eventually I'd like to decorate wedding cakes or open a little bakery. That's a way off yet though, I need to get this bit with Wright State worked out. ::sigh::
