Hey, guys, this place is kinda dead- and what a shame! I think I know why this is. pooperman said it before, elsewhere: reading together is hard. We all have different reading levels and different schedules, and when some of us fall behind while others zoom past whatever schedule is agreed on, it can be frustrating for all. Especially when unforeseen IRL ( Read more... )

Not a bad idea. Since I have finished BK, I suppose I could post a few OP's on BK with appropriate tagging and spoilers behind a cut and then move on to my next book, which I'm thinking might be Joyce's A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man based on felephant's suggestion.

Perhaps with good community tags that include the author and the title of the book being discussed in the OP, and spoilers behind lj-cuts, we could do this together thing a little less together-like? Might be crazy enough to work...

Even something like just a warning at the beginning and content under a cut is fine, I'd think. I'd like to see what you have to say about BK.

Hey I'm glad to see you're entertaining ideas to make this group happen. I am currently in a graduate program and so all my reading time is spent on textbooks. When I get breaks (like at Thanksgiving, and Xmas), I'll probably read a couple books. Unfortunately for the whole group thing, I will probably read what I already have on the shelf, instead of going to the library to check out something.

So I have another idea. What if everyone posted reviews of whatever they ARE reading? Make it a place where we can get an idea what an author or work is about? I read mostly nonfiction, which may be boring to you guys. My favorite areas are science, medicine, culture, language, politics, religion, and philosophy. If you turn me on to a classic that's rich in these areas, I might just join you in reading it!

Yeah, I think we could use this community for just that! Not necessarily reviews, but if that's what you'd like you certainly could. Unless, of course, no one else thinks that's a good idea. I'm not exactly maintainer here- just throwing around ideas.
