В бостонском музее искусств, открывшемся после улучшения эпидемиологической ситуации в Бостоне, проходит небольшая выставка Сезанна: шесть картин из собственной коллекции, ещё шесть из частных коллекций. Из интернета (в частности из фейсбука музея) удалось сделать некую подборку, дающую представление о выставке.
Верхняя картина - "Белые цветы в чаше" (1885), Берта Моризо; нижняя - "Тарелка с персиками" (1895-1900), Сезанн (частное собрание).
“White Flowers in a Bowl” (1885) demonstrates the spontaneity associated with Berthe Morisot's late style. The quick, short strokes used for the flower petals convey the soft, dense quality of the white blooms, traditionally identified as reines-marguerites, an aster varietal.

Still Life with Peaches and Pears (about 1885-87), showing a bowl of fruit viewed from above and a nearby pear seen from the side, capturing two perspectives at once.

“I am progressing very slowly, for nature reveals itself to me in very complex forms.” Less interested in the fleeting effects of light and weather that so engaged his friends, Cézanne instead investigated space and form, observing and working slowly. Though their garments suggest a particular era, his figures here in "The Pond" (about 1877-79) seem to exist outside of any specific moment or story. Situated near one another, they nevertheless appear distant, detached, their faces rendered in only a cursory way.

“When Monet was having a particularly tough day, struggling to paint, his wife would hide the Cézanne paintings. It seemed he found the artist’s achievement distracting and intimidating!” -Katie Hanson, Associate Curator, Art of Europe. Did you know that Monet owned 14 Cézanne paintings, including this landscape which is now in the MFA’s collection?
