This week is our Final Contract Trials (FCT) inspection. It’s not an inspection a Navy ship can go through, it is the inspection. I’m busy enough, and I can feel the significantly heightened stress around me as high ranking officers flood our ship and pick apart everything. Yet, I’m still junior enough to be largely unaffected. Those that are really suffering are either higher ranking officers or else the enlisted technicians who have been doing things incorrectly. Some of the pain rolls down to me, and yes, despite being inport we have had very long working hours, yet I escape with minor wear and tear. It as though I’m standing in the eye of a hurricane, untouched, but watching the destruction all around me thinking, “wow, that must suck.” Sometimes it’s good to be the junior guy.
