Starbucks came out with Orange Mochas this week. Have any of you tried them? I bought an Orange Passion Tea but it tastes a bit artificial to me. Updates from the field please!
I kinda think it's not, since Starbucks made a point to discontinue its Valencia syrup recently, and wouldn't just replace it with the same stuff a few months later under a different name.
Plus, in the past, I've experimented with making mochas with just plain "orange" syrup, and it's absolutely nothing like valencia for some reason.
I think Valencia has a different flavor, sweetness, or spiciness to it than just plain orange.
I simply had to report back to you with my (OK, my brother's) official findings! OK, not-official findings. But whatever!
My brother the mocha valencia expert reports:
"It's eerily similar to the Mocha Valencia, but it tastes a little, I dunno, 'cheaper' if that makes sense. And the aftertaste is not as pleasant. Oh well."
So, very close but not exact. :)
But damn, the aftertaste was seriously the best part of the now-defunct mocha valencia.
of course you also have to factor the types of syrups.... i personally prefer the torani syrups to the davinici, and SO many local shops around here use davinci, its sad. Davinci is local and all, but their flavors (specifically, fruity ones) taste like laffy taffy flavors rather than the real fruit.
Wow! I wonder how the orange mocha compares to the mocha valencia!!
