what, exactly, is city year? this may be a dumb question, but instead of googling it i thought i'd ask you because i know i'd get a much better picture of the pllace from you, har har.
Oh wow, where to begin... I'll feed you the line, then I'll figure out what to actually say. City Year is a non-profit AmeriCorps program with 17 sites in the United States and one in South Africa. The corps is made up of 17 to 24 year olds who commit a year to service.
I mostly did in-school service this year--mentoring, tutoring and running an after school program. We also do some physical service and leadership development bullshit. City Year is called an "action tank" which also means they can use us for things like a national convention called cyzygy. Which is what the New Hampshire corps is hosting this week. This means that I get to spend an entire week living on a college campus and doing what I'm told. Going to seminars and lectures and random things like that.
Its basically a good program, but I'm really burned out on idealism right now.
Hi! I know we haven't talked in like forever, but I read your livejournal! Granted, I don't understand some of it (like City Year, explained above) but I try to keep up. So I'll play the game when I get a chance to write. And I don't have 8 people either. :) Even though it sounds like you're having a rough time with something, I hope overall life is going well for you. Take care!
