Today I got to use the word "fuck" in an academic paper. As a verb.
We changed discussion groups in my gay and lesbian literature class today. I introduced myself to the people in my group and told them I'm a music major and I'm from Cincinnati. Typical "nice to meet you" college introduction. There are a number of black girls in the class, which is unusual given the very small number of minority students at OU. One of the black girls in my group said she was from Cincinnati too. I said, Oh really? What high school did you go to? And what did she say??
"Amelia"
*Lauren's jaw drops*
"What high school did you go to?"
"Amelia..."
I swear I've never seen this girl before in my life, but apparently we had a lot of the same teachers and knew some of the same people in high school. (She graduated a year after me so I don't feel SO bad about not knowing who she is).
What's weirder... There were like 6 black students at Amelia. Then about 5 of them transferred out after all the confederate flag flying bullshit. On top of which... I think there was maybe one gay kid at Amelia who was out. So the odds of meeting a fellow classmate from Amelia in a glbt lit class? Slim to none. The chances of meeting a black classmate from Amelia in any situation? Even slimmer. So the chances of both happening at once???? Astronomical. AND I wouldn't have known who she was if she hadn't been put in my discussion group. So weird. She's really sweet though, and we talked about old teachers and high school stuff. Random.
