The week in funnies

I need to get to bed, but there are just a few anecdotes I want to share before I forget about them.

On Saturday, I went to the music building to practice. On my way there, it was threatening to rain, so I decided to run to school. I practiced for a few hours and then when I came outside, I saw a huge, dark, ominous storm cloud. The storm was coming from south to north (the same direction I needed to go to get home). As I stood staring, a few fat raindrops fell on the concrete around me. Considering that I had electronics on me and no umbrella, I started running in an effort to beat the “monsoon” (as they're called here). I kept looking back over my shoulder watching the giant cloud follow me. As I was running, I thought, “My earphone wires are really banging around on me more than normal. Maybe it's because I'm running faster.” Then I looked down at my chest and realized I was still wearing my neck strap. Embarrassing. It was definitely too late to turn around, so I left it there and still managed to outrun the storm. It started pouring just a couple minutes after I made it home.

On Monday I talked to my mother on the phone (after neglecting to do for about five days). It is always a serious undertaking to answer her calls because it is a guaranteed hour of my day, gone. I had not been in the mood for several days and my phone was acting up. She had left me a message saying, “I'm getting really worried about you, please call me!” I finally did. We discussed my difficulty in finding a job (not sure if I mentioned I didn't get the horse job, much to my dismay). She told me, “Please don't get a job in porn. I know it's hard to find work there, but I'd rather help you out financially than see you do something desperate. You haven't done anything like that yet have you?” Flabbergasted, I said, “No!” and she said, “Oh good, I was worried when I didn't hear from you were maybe working some seedy job.” Thank you for the vote of confidence mother.

This week I tried taking a paper delivery job (I did 2 days of training). The hours were 1:30am-4:30am, so my already minimal sleep habits were further compromised. On Monday night (for no good reason other than not starting to practice until late) I slept for 4 hours, Tuesday night 5 hours, and Wednesday I stayed up all day and did the paper route. When I got home at 4:30, I slept for 3.5-4 hours before I had to get up for school. By that point (after last week was horrible also sleep-wise), I felt pretty terrible. I was running late (since I tried to snooze a couple times), but I needed breakfast, coffee, and a shower. After scarfing down a bowl of cereal while the coffee was brewing, I decided to take my coffee with me in the shower. I have to say, drinking coffee in the shower (while doing tasks such as shaving) did feel like an all time low as far as my caffeine addiction is concerned. However, I also think it's pretty funny.

Lastly a quote from Devin describing his day: “I watched 7 hours of television and burped and farted almost simultaneously!”

Hopefully tomorrow or Saturday I'll have time for a more elaborate update. =)
