Still upset about VT...

I didn't think I was going to feel very directly affected by the VT shootings, but today I did. I was talking to a friend earlier today in the music school, about music, and someone came and asked if he was feeling better. I thought perhaps he had been sick or something... no, he lost a friend at VT. Also, the shooter was in his HS graduating class. *sigh*

Tonight during M3E, when we met for the group improv. Session, the teacher told us that one of the students he had worked with (former clarinet section leader at Annandale HS) was among the dead. We did an improvised homage to all of the victims. Mostly, the input was very powerful... a couple of selfish, attention-seeking jackasses contributed material I thought to be inappropriate, but it subsided and the piece ended perfectly.

I also ran into Kyle today (former GMU student, now grad student at Peabody). He was telling me how upset he was about the VT thing. Kyle is usually a goofy guy... I think I've seen him serious maybe 2x before... so seeing him so troubled had an impact. He told me that he was going to the bookstore to buy a GMU shirt. He felt that for some reason, it was going to make him feel better... by no real reason that I can verbalize, something inside me said that was true and that he was right. Perhaps the incident is a wake-up call as far as appreciating what we have, and who we have... maybe Kyle had to buy a shirt as if it were an apology to GMU for talking so much shit when he (we) actually gained so much (as well as each other).

Usually, Thursday is bowling night. However, my friends' band, Sematic, is doing an acoustic show at Firehouse Grille as a benefit concert for one of the victims who went to my HS. I've decided that I want to go to it. All of the proceeds will go to the victim's family. I like the idea and it will be a good opportunity to see friends I rarely see.
