Summer work

May 14, 2007 19:35

Oh yeah, I found out schtuff about the summer.  Here are some snippets:

Typically, a faculty supervisor (the principal investigator), a graduate student who is performing Master’s or Doctoral thesis research or a Postdoctoral Fellow, and one - sometimes two - REU or UROP student(s) execute an REU research project. REU students are encouraged to take as large a role in the development of a research project as they are capable. Students are provided with references and background information on the research project to which they have been assigned before beginning actual laboratory work. Students are then encouraged to begin work by writing out a brief research plan with the help of their graduate student or postdoctoral associate supervisor.
On the Monday afternoon and Tuesday morning, June 11 and 12, 2007, you will attend brief presentations representing the projects and labs interested in taking on an REU student for the summer. Tuesday afternoon is when you will have time to visit the labs. At the very end of the day on Tuesday, you will submit your top three project selections to the BE Undergraduate office. The following morning, the 3rd day of the program, you will report to the BE Undergraduate 0ffice, room 16-429, to receive your assignment. You will report directly to your lab for the remainder of the program.
Both houses are next to each other on Massachusetts Avenue. WIGL is located at 355 Massachusetts Ave, ADP at 351 Massachusetts Ave. in Cambridge, near Central Square. Theses houses are a 5-minute walk to MIT, and a 3-5 minute walk from the Central Square T station. The Massachusetts Avenue bus stops directly in front of the house. There is also a large supermarket conveniently located just across the street. Your room will be a “single” and have hardwood floors and include furniture and a bed. You will need to provide linens and pillows. The bed size is twin extra long.  Each floor has a phone, which allows both local and credit card calls. Both houses have full kitchens.
All this and more at http://web.mit.edu/bpec/Outreach/REU_2007/reu_info.htm if you're interested.
Will comment later.
