Since I got my first tattoo I'd like to give a few of tips from my experience (This might be obvious to those who already have tattoos). I'm NOT a tattoo expert and I DON'T know absolutely everything about Tattoo
What to get done? It's good to think about when you want to get tattooed, and make it as personal as possible. The more meaning it has for you the better. It could be something that inspires you (something that you have always loved whether it be an object, a place or a person). With getting tattoos of people, you could always choose themes that reminds you of them; a symbol, a name, or a portrait (this particually suits beloved family members).
Also leave it for a minimium of 3 years to think about it. If you're a young teenager who is lusting after your first tattoo, you'll be able to think and plan your tattoo as much as you want as the legal age is 18 (in most parts of the world). Use this time to find out precisely what you this way you'll be extra pleased to finally have it done.
The Occasion This might not be relevent to some people. But it could be the anniversary of someones birth, death, successeding in something that matters to you whether it be in a relationship, moving on in life, or over coming a tragedgy.
Where to get it done Best to ask around friends, most preferably the ones that have tattoos.
How long it'll take/ How much it will cost? Be certain to pay out around £100 for well done small-ish Tattoo. My small simple dragon design cost me £200 and it took 2 hrs. It's also good to keep in mind that you'll have to be in the best of health to get a permanent tattoo- you'll be given a form to fill in with health related questions such as, Have you eatten in the last 8 hours? Have you drank any alcohol in the las 48 hours? etc. it will also be good to have something to eat after getting tattooed- it takes alot out of you and a harty breakfast/ lunch will keep in good stead.
Will it hurt? Um... is there any subtle way to put this? Yes it will hurt! So if being continously bitten by a tattooing insect doesn't seem like your cup of tea, I'd advice you not to get it done. (thought to my point of view it's not half as bad as the hot itchiness you get when the Tattoo is healing: which you can't stratch otherwise it'll damage your new tattoo.)
Once you've got your tattoo; Natually look after it wash it gently with soap and water and use E45 lotion (or the lotion that you've been recommended by the tattooist) 3 times a day to begin with. As it heals it might need less lotion about two weeks later but times differ. You'll notice that when the tenderness subsides the lotion will lose its effect and it will be pretty much healed. If anything serious accures always contact your Tattooist or Docter.
