Moving

Hi, I don't really know people over here or anything, or how this works - I know it's similar to LJ but I've been off LJ a while too and DW seems quite unfamiliar. How do we move stuff over here from LJ? Is there a way to get things we posted in communities? I don't know much about how either of these networks work but I'd like to save my work at

I'm not moving as such, I already have a dreamwidth journal, have had since '09, but I created a separate account to import my LJ to, just so I wouldn't lose any of the comments or anything I'dd posted there.

Whether or not you delete your LJ after import is complete is up to you, but if you're going to, don't do it until after you claim your open i.d. from there, it'll allow you to manage your imported comments as your dreamwidth identity. Or something. Not sure I completely understand it, but it's a good thing according to the dreamwidth team, and I trust them a whole lot more than I trust LJ. If you're not a member of dw_maintenance and dw_news, subscribe to them, because they keep you bang up to date with anything going on with the site, planned maintenance, bug fixes, etc., and if anything goes weird after a code push, you can leave a comment and they'll get right on figuring out the problem, unlike LJ.

I'm not deleting my LJ, or anything on it (including slash). I'm not even going to stop posting there. It's been pointed out that Russia can't do much to anyone outside their shores other than delete their journal, and if that happens to me, I'm backed up elsewhere. I can't see them poking around every journal looking for things they don't approve of, I'm sure they're more concerned with their own citizens. the only thing I will do is switch from automatic payments. Eventually I might let my paid account lapse and go back to a basic unpaid one, but we'll see.
