if birds & the sky & life itself
could be the reason
how i would gallop wildly
thunderously with glee
(what they say of velocity,
how it sears away the periphery
& hasn't patience for but one object,
being then stark and true)
flailing, thrashing, snatching
as the menace does for love
this i would do,
at the sliverish specter of day
at the feverish flirtation of dew
but birds & the sky & life itself
could persist without me
nothing perishes once i am emptied
but like a clumsy vessel
(as it tumbles anyway)
i might merely wish
(trem - bl - ing)
to fall into something that drinks
