1. Lord of this World - Black Sabbath
As if I wouldn't have list of favourite music without including these crusty bastards?
2. Let There Be Rock - AC/DC
I'm one of those people who still consider Brian Johnson to be the "new guy" in AC/DC. One look at Bon Scott in this video will demonstrate why. R.I.P. you crazy bastard.
3. Little Wing - Jimi Hendrix (and the Experience...I suppose)
He remains my favourite guitarist. You can keep your technical wankers - this man knew how to fucking play. R.I.P. brother.
4. Ladybird - Dallas Crane
One of my favourite rock bands, a Melbourne stalwart and a bunch of good blokes to boot. They're pretty much defunct now, which is a shame as no one knew how to be old school yet original like these buggers.
5. Long Way Back From Hell - Danzig
A total tool who has written some utter scorchers. This is one of 'em.
6. Lucifer Sam - Pink Floyd
Syd Barrett was a drug-fucked genius, and without him Floyd would never have been the household name they are today, even though their later stuff sounded absolutely nothing like their first magnificently psychedelic album, Piper At The Gates Of Dawn.
7. Life Blood - Pentagram
Bobby Liebling and his various motley associates have always crafted some of the best doom around. Worthy successors to early Sabbath, and this song is a cruncher.
8. Limo Wreck - Soundgarden
Forget whatever you know about the "grunge" scene in the early 90s. For a start, I don't actually believe that you can call it a genre (but I'm not getting into that) and, secondly, for all the shitty bands that surfaced during that time, Soundgarden were one of the few I can stand, let alone actually still actively listen to. Before he went all weird with Audioslave and that atrocious collaboration with Timbaland, Chris Cornell could do no wrong in my eyes. This is off their best seller Superunknown, which has all been forgotten apart from the song everyone knows. Which, for the record, is among the least interesting songs they ever recorded, whereas this one is a sprawling harmonic monster.
9. Lord of All Fevers and Plague - Morbid Angel
I love Morbid Angel's early output. They were death metal pioneers, and if they'd gone more in this direction...well. Who knows? Instead they went for sludgy and overproduced dreck later. Shame.
10. Loverman - Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds
I have three words: Fuck you, Metallica.
I want to actually use this LJ more than I have been. But I want to use it as a real writing outlet rather than just a forum for me to air grievances about my boring life. I'm looking at a career change which (maybe) involves more creative writing, so I'll need all the practice I can get. And that means more than Having A WhingeTM, or not updating because all I want to do is Have A WhingeTM.
That being said, update on life in general coming soon. Probably.
