Ok so I've been interested in the show 30 Days for a while but have never caught an episode until last night. Not only did I finally get to see it, but it was the one episode I was really interested in catching. They took a minuteman that spends time patrolling the U.S./Mexican border, and had him live in a small 1 bedroom apartment with a family of illegal aliens. The family was a father, mother, and five kids. Of the kids two of them were born in the U.S. so they were now legal/documented citizens of the states while the other three and their parents were still in the country illegally.
Over the course of the episode there were many discussions and fights over issues of deportation, amnesty, and legalization. On which both sides had made points, but it was not till he took a trip to Mexico to see where this family had lived 12 years ago shortly before crossing the border that any of the illegal's side could really be put into perspective. Living in roach infested houses with mostly dirt floors and other very poor conditions. I can see why so many are willing to risk being caught, work hard for pennies, and deportation back to Mexico to come here.
Still there was a point made that if this particular family was caught by the INS that who would be deported? You can't deport the entire family as two of it's members were citizens, and it would be inhumane to deport the parents and older siblings leaving two young children alone in this country. However the parents made the choice to enter the country illegally and as the saying goes you made your bed now lie in it. Back in the days of childhood if I broke rules or lied to my parents I was full aware of the reprocussions and punishment that fit the crime. Still you do the crime you get the punishment. As a father of three, I can sympathize with the pain of splitting a family as I would fight to the death before letting someone take my children from me.
Another point on the illegal alien debate if we grant amnesty to all of the illegals without any punishment for their crimes, then I ask you would the government give out a get out of jail free card to all the US citizens who were born here? Hell no they would not. Here's something else to think about. Illegal aliens get free health care! In hospitals it is against the law for them to refuse treatment regardless of legal status in this country. So tax payers of this country as the millions of illegal aliens have children it is your dollars being spent and they pay nothing. When one of their kids breaks and arm and get a cast. If an illegal has a heart attack and is rushed to the hospital. Say one needs an emergency appendectomy. It is those who are citizens and paying taxes that get the bill! If I break my foot and can't pay the bill it's my credit that gets messed up and my house that's going to get calls from collectors looking for their money.
The father of the family made his living by doing odd jobs for little money and he said that he was doing work that Americans don't want to do. If that is so then why are there contractors, electricians, and other workers that can do the job? He is getting the work because the person doing the hiring goes unpunished for breaking the law and hiring someone in the country illegally to do that work. Not only that but he is getting paid at most 1/3 the cost to have one of our fellow americans do the work. If a business breaks this law they should be fined.
The eldest daughter got the minuteman to walk in a demonstration, and while there people were waving Mexican flags. Many still were waving American flags, and others had t-shirts of some mexican revolutionary. My question is if they want to become citizens of this country why wave mexican flags? Why demand that you automatically are a citizen because you have crossed the border and lived here undocumented for years? You did the crime and are still commiting a crime while you live without any documentation sucking money from government programs that I help pay for, but I'm still supposed to just let all that go and let you become a citizen of this country?
Still I can't divide a family and punish children for a crime commited by a parent. On one hand my heart breaks for a family that has seen hard times as I have never known, and on the other hand they are breaking the law. When is it ok to break the law? When will congress pass laws they intend to enforce? When will people realize that for every family that comes accross that would mean no harm there is probably someone else who could have been a murderer, rapist, or theif running from the law in Mexico to take their chances here. Also I know that terrorists are more likely to cross the border from Canada, and why don't we ever hear about that border or securing our northern border? Bastards in D.C. need to get their stuff together and start doing what is right for this country and quit voting one way and then speaking another in public. Why must we be a bilingual society?
Here's another point on the liberal media and their warping of reality. I had the volume low as April was sleeping next to me and I did not want to wake her and had turned on the closed caption and was relying on it for any words I missed from the volume. There was more than one point in which the minuteman living with this family said illegal alien, or illegal (fill in the blank) and the closed caption changed it to "undocumented". Why change what the man said? Why put in a word, let alone a longer one, in place of what the guy actually said? Why call them undocumented residents? Why not call a muderer a life ender? Why not call a rapist a persistant individual? Granted a murderer or a rapist commits a much more grievous crime than that of an illegal alien, but why call them simply undocumented? I'm an undocumented truck driver, but if I jump in a Mack Truck and start rolling down the highway does that make it ok? Are these people owed citizenship? What is to be done?
Sorry to leave you like that, but I'd love to hear some of your thoughts on this matter. That and my head hurts.
It matters not what your point of view on this issue is. I will not blast you for what you feel or believe. Nor will I let anyone else blast you in here.
