there's hope in these tears

Dec 07, 2006 16:04

i allowed myself to get very involved in the kim family's story of survival in the oregon mountains, and i cried when i heard the news that james' body had been found in the forest.

if you are in san francisco, please make an effort to attend this memorial tonight:

Hello everyone,

I suspect that, like Nancy and myself, many you have been affected by
the ordeal that James and Kati Kim and their two daughters, Penelope
and Sabine, have been through the past week and a half.

James Kim's passing is being felt by so many right now. Nancy and I did
not know him, but we had just recently met Kati and Sabine when Kati
started carrying the stuffed animals that we make with our friend Jeff,
in her store, Doe, on Haight Street in our neighborhood.

We cannot explain how profoundly we feel the loss of this man that we
didn't even know.

His courage and determination in the most unimaginable of circumstances
is something that we do not want let pass without celebrating.

We got the idea to meet tonight at Dolores Park with brown paper bags
and candles to spell out his name on the hill in the park.

We will be there at 8pm until we are done and encourage anyone that
wants to help or just witness this temporary memorial to meet us there.

We know that it may seem strange to do this for someone that we didn't
even know, but we felt we needed to do something.

Please feel free to forward this message to anyone you think might want
to participate.

Sincerely,

Scott & Nancy

Dolores Park is between Church & Dolores Streets, at 18th St. in SF.
