21 Flights

The fire alarm went off here about 9:30 this morning. There was no immediate announcement of a drill or a false alarm, so we actually started down the stairs. As stairwell monitor, I had to stay up at our floor and make sure that everyone made it out ok, no one needed assistance, etc. Then the other monitor and I started on our way down. I remind you, gentle reader, that I work on the twenty-first floor. Most people, apparently, were able to stop descending at the 16th floor and take the elevator from there. By the time we got to 16, however, the door was locked, so we continued down the stairs.

When we got to 14, an announcement came over the PA system, announcing that the investigation of the alarm on the 19th, 20th, and 21st floors had been completed, and that this was a "non-emergency event. We apologize for the inconvenience."

So, my co-monitor and I are 1/3 of the way down, all the doors leading out of the stairwell are locked, and we really didn't need to have gone down at all. *sigh*

My legs are gonna be feeling this tonight, when I've got the Progress going on for AOKP. Fun fun fun.
