Harry Potter had always thought he was attracted to Cho Chang, which was why his head seemed to turn to the direction of the girl, even more so when she was walking the corridors with Cedric Diggory. A surge of jealousy clawed at his soul, blanketing his senses. Often, Harry found himself looking away from the couple in a futile effort to keep his jealousy from manifesting itself on his tense features. Hermione had once told him he wore his emotions on his sleeves; he was afraid that Cho and Cedric would notice how jealous he was.
Even as strange dream started to haunt his sleep, he insisted he was jealous of Cedric for having Cho’s attention all to himself. He wondered why, in his dreams, hands that were most certainly not femine but masculine and slightly calloused with years of gripping broomsticks caressed his naked torso. Every night, Harry jerked awake when his dream-self cried out an unexpected name in euphoric release.
As he sat on the Astronomy Tower on his own one silent night, he remembered the pain in his chest as he sat cradling the cold body of Cedric Diggory. He remembered how he felt as if his heart had stopped when he saw Cedric’s unseeing eyes.
Dead.
Harry finally understood how far-fetched his ideas were. He was never attracted to Cho Chang. He was never jealous of Cedric. Never. Instead, he had always been jealous of Cho for constantly yapping and hogging Cedric’s attention to herself. It wasn’t Cho he wanted.
It was Cedric whom his heart called out to in the first place.
...and it was only tragic that Harry understood a little too late.
