The first thing Xiao Lang heard that morning was his brother whining. “TOU-SAN,” Syaoran called out the door, “XIAO-CHAN WON’T WAKE UP.”
“WHAT?” his father yelled back, and by the time Seiichirou had run into the room Xiao Lang had curled up into the tightest ball he could manage beneath his blanket, eyes tightly scrunched.
“Five more minutes,” he mumbled when his father threw the blanket off, adding mentally that he would seek vengeance upon his brother for calling in the heavy artillery.
His father gave a great sigh, and Xiao felt the bed shift as he sat on it. At his feet, Syaoran scrambled up onto the bed, and sat there. “Oh, thank Mokona,” his Tou-san said, “I thought…well. I guess I should be used to this by now, eh?”
A hand ruffled Xiao Lang’s hair, and Xiao Lang made an inarticulate noise of “mooooore sleeeeeeep pleeeeease” before his dad got up, and scooped Xiao Lang up entirely in his arms. “Tou-san,” Xiao Lang whined. “I got up early yesterday!”
His father laughed. “And I’m very proud of you for it, Xiao-chan.” Xiao Lang felt glowy and warm with pleasure at hearing this - perfect for going back to bed - and then his father continued: “I’ll be very proud of you if you wake up early this morning, too.”
They were traveling down the hallway, Xiao Lang could tell without looking; he could feel his twin’s presence following him, hear him in the almost-quiet tread of his still sleepy feet. And then they were in the kitchen, and the scent of bacon and eggs was everywhere.
“Mrr,” Xiao Lang said. “Okay, Tou-san. I can walk now.”
Seiichirou laughed. “That’s my boy. Goodness, you and your cousin are far too alike in the mornings. Would you like strawberry or chocolate milk with your breakfast, Syaoran-chan?”
“Strawberry!”
“Orange juice, please,” Xiao Lang said as he was set onto his unsteady feet. He blinked his eyes open, and the first thing he saw was his twin clambering up onto a chair. Yawning, Xiao Lang clambered up onto the chair next to him, and said, “Tou-san says I’m more like Sakura-chan than you.”
Bingo.
“W-what?”
Xiao Lang took satisfaction in his brother’s early morning blush; vengeance was his!
