I'm a bit confused about being allowed to use other images-- do we need to have taken photographs we might use, or are stock photos also permissible?

Do you mean are stock photos permissible for making your own icon resources, like textures and light effects? Yes, of course! As long as they're yours (i.e. you bought them online or you have one of those CDs of copyright-free images) or you searched for them yourself, and then cropped and edited them yourself to make the icon resources. I hope this clarifies it for you. ^_^

Just a question, though - even though there's only two bannermakers, we still do the banner-rotation method, right?

Ack! I didn't see this until I checked my email so please disregard my earlier comment asking you to confirm and YAAAY! ^O^ *glomps you again* I'll give you posting access after this. ^_^

And, yep, we'll still do the whole banner-rotation thing but it's going to be more of banner-interchange because we're only 2; so it's going to be you, me, you, me...You get the picture. Hopefully we'll get other fellow banner-makers soon...

So, anyway, I'm not strict about when you finish and post banners, take your time in making them and maybe you might even want to post batches at one time. But just make sure not to delay them too much, like more than a month or something. But if you really can't finish or make the banners for certain weeks, don't hesitate to tell me right away so I can either make them myself or ask help from somebody.

And...What else? What else? I hope you can start with week 5? If that's fine then that's it! And yay again for volunteering: THANK YOU! ^o^
