Question: Tokyo Babylon/X - Seishiro's many hats

X is my first true foray into CLAMP, so I didn't realize until some time after starting that CLAMP imported characters from earlier works like Tokyo Babylon and Clamp School Detectives to round out the cast.  Of particular interest to me is everyone's favorite one-eyed assassin, Seishiro Sakurazuka.

After asking around a bit, a friend of mine who ( Read more... )

CLAMP didn't give a real answer to your question but tecnically the Chi no Ryu's mission is to save/protect Earth that's being destroyed by humans wiping away humans.
So the Sakurazukamori, murdering humanity, can be still protecting Japan as 'the place' and not as 'the population'.
However he's not really taking care of the Chi no Ryu's goal that much. In X he's still murdering people for Japan's well being. Incidentally, doing so next to a Kekkai causes it to fall... so his only change in behaviour can be that he has gotten careless about where he murders people...

Japan the place vs Japan the population

You know, that's just the sort of clever thing Seishiro would come up with, assuming he felt the need to justify it at all. Thanks for such a timely response

I don't think he'll feel the need to justify... but since in TB he liked to talk a lot and in X he shows he doesn't mind to discharge the fault on other people I might be wrong...
You're welcome!

I read somewhere (can't remember where excatly) that, with Tokyo Babylon, there was also this concept that there Subaru and Seishiro would battle over the fate of the earth. Only it ended with that happening. Bringing them into X, there was part of that with them fighting for the fate of the earth. The creators also wanted them to mirror the relationship between Kamui and Fumma.

I hope that answers some of your question....

I have heard that before, actually, but I appreciate your chipping in.

The symmetry is quite fascinating (in the darkest way possible).
