Alice in Cheongdam-dong is written by the scripters behind Tree With Deep Roots and Queen Seon-deok in what I assume will be a big departure from their epic sageuk background.

No, it's NOT going to be written by Kim Young-Hyun and Park Sang-Yeon, it's their assistants who will be penning

Could be a case of eyes reading faster than the mind, when you convince yourself you're reading something but then it's not exactly as it was originally written. Used to happen to me all the time when I was doing daily news stuff for Twitch, and it's indeed a honest mistake that comes from doing this too often and in the long run becoming a routine, for the most part. Plus they only said "the scripters behind...", and if they meant scripter from an US industry point of view, 보조작가 is more or less the closest thing to that. You know, cub writers doing the manual labor on behalf of the creators.

근데 이건 물론 보도자료를 있는 그대로 내뱉는 언플에 불과해. 기획은 최강칠우처럼 했지... 최완규식 "크리에이터" 같은 꼬라지. 아이디어 몇개 던지고, 대본리딩에 몇번 참여하고 회당 천오백 쳐먹는건, 끝. 난 드라마몹 블로그 할 때 백운철 작가랑 좀 얘기했는데 "기획"은 개뿔... 네임벨류만 팔았지. ㅋㅋ

관여한다는 야그는 그냥 최강칠우처럼 김박 회사가 공동제작하는 개념으로 (그러니까... 이병훈 드라마에서 에이스토리 하는 것처럼) 자기 소속 작가를 쓴다는거지. 감수야... 전체적으로 뭔가를 하겠지만 그야말로 네임벨류를 팔아서 돈 버는거지. 뭐 그 네임벨류는 드라마에 있어 일종의 똥폼이기도 하지만.

말 놓으셈. 넷상으로는 존댓말을 쓸 때 알레르기 생기거든. 나이도 비슷한 것 같고. ㅋㅋ

Did I overreact? Probably. :) But after watching the umpteenth reader ooh and aah over the project b/c of "the writers", I felt like ranting. And maybe in the end, it doesn't matter (in their eyes) whether it's Kim & Park or their assistants. After all, they did work under Kim & Park and maybe that's reason enough to be "hopeful".

But I'd still be skeptical even if it were Kim & Park. They were lousy at romance in their sageuks (no idea what HIT was like), and rom-com is a whole different genre. Their 보조작가들 would have to have some hidden talents of their own to distinguish themselves.

HIT was... uneven. Unnervingly so. The most annoying parts being exactly what you'd expect. Just need a look of who Kim grew under (have Choi Wan-Gyu and Lee Byung-Hoon ever done romance right? Even General Hospital wasn't good with it ㅋㅋ). Show saved by production, music, and partly by its performances, really. Ancillary, as GHJ was annoying and HJW underwhelming. But terrific 엄효섭, 손현주, 최일화, 마동석, 서현진, 김정태

I don't get this... idea that somehow the US model could work for k-dramas or solve some of its problems, but then maybe there's more to whatever CJ's supposedly doing beyond transplanting or adopting that model. I'm also not very exposed to 현대극 on broadcast tv these days (tend to drift towards sageuks), so it's always a big shock to see how blatant the PPL can be. If they want to go American, why not just introduce 중간광고? Dunkin'2Hearts could have done that every 15-20 min. and we wouldn't have known the difference with what they actually did.

I'm also not a faithful reader there, but with Alice, I just wanted to see if the age difference bothered them as much the one in Faith. (There's a lot I don't care about Faith, but Kim Hee-Sun looking d@mn good for her age isn't one of them.) Sort of took it as an experiment with the opposite case, but it's the writer thing that ended up pushing my buttons.

They can't. Government tried to pass 중간광고 for 지상파 in 2009 but it was turned down. And admittedly the masses wouldn't accept it. Try to reverse 25 year habits in a few months and see what happens. Now at least some of the shows get "본 방송은 중간광고가 포함되고 있습니다" disclaimers. Problem is not so much that they're now free to get PPL via 유한회사, but that it's actually the SPC that has control over the content, since the more you pay the more control over your exposure you get. With the funding structure as it is, PPL and foreign pre-sales are the only way to gather funds without going with the Russian roulette of the ad market. I was ROTFL reading that interview about the increased number of MBC 자체제작. 자체제작은 개뿔. They have to gather funds via semi-legal paper companies that sell piece of the script to the highest bidder... is that an in house production
