I've been carrying around my anthro book with me, at work and today at the gym. Its called, "Becoming a Doctor." I didn't know when I decided to bring this book with me places that it would be such a conversation starter. At work, I got a lot of questions about if I wanted to become a doctor, and then "ohs" with dissapointed faces when I told them no, I do not. At the gym today, I was working out next to a cute boy, and he said, "So, how do you become a doctor?" So, anticipating that he wanted to know if that was my plan for the future, I explained why I was reading the book. That didn't shut him up, he asked me what I wanted to do with my future, and I don't really know, so I told him that, and he said, "Oh, are you a freshman or something? You've got time." Meanwhile, we're both working hard at our workouts, and I'm a little out of breath and sweaty and not really attractive. But still, my book has prompted this kid to flirt with me.
If I had known that reading my book for class in public places would lead to condescending remarks about my undecided future, I would keep the damn book in my bag.
