I wanted to wish everyone a happy new year, but then I read about everything going on in Pakistan and Kenya and want to scream. When will men stop killing each other? Especially when they kill women and children. I know it's hopelessly naive, but NOTHING is ever solved through this violence. Not anymore. Maybe once upon a time you could kill a bunch of people for the greater good (which I still don't believe is right) and peace was eventually achieved through violence, but not anymore. There are too many people in the world and they've made it too small. But tell me what have you accomplished when you burn women and children to death for your cause? What? I don't care how important your goal is. The end does NOT justify the means.
Can you imagine living in a country where things like this happen? For all the problems here, even during the most disputed election, I never went to vote worried I'd be shot or firebombed. No matter how much I despise a candidate (and I despise Bush and his cabinet more than is healthy) the idea would enver enter my head that someone will kill me for my opinions and beliefs. Protests, sure. But burning people alive?
