So yesterday after I got back from class, Rae, JC and I went to go cut some bamboo to make an outdoor enclosure for Britches and our neighbor's bunnies. There's this place on the west side of town that is covered in bamboo so we can go and cut it there for free. So we cut a bunch and loaded it into the truck so that the front ends were touching the windshield inside and the back ends were sticking out the back of the truck. Rae's truck is covered in the back, so the ends stuck out the little hatchback. There wasn't enough space for me up front anymore, so I rode in the back with the bamboo. It was great. So we got home and then we had writing group. We were done writing our second story and Rae was reading hers when I felt a little itching on the back of my arm. Turned out there was a lone start tick (Amblyomma americanum) climbing up me. You can tell by the white dot on their backs. They are vectors for Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, lyme disease, and Human Granulacytic Erlichiosis. Thank you, medical entomology. I'm pretty sure I picked up the little guy while we were out cutting bamboo and he hadn't gotten a chance to bite me yet. The funny thing was that Rae was just reading the part in her story where the main character was bitten by a tick.
Tonight Tasha and I are finally going to the Regina Spektor concert... woohoo!
