Kallen had never been one for fanciful stories of beautiful vampire boys weeping tears of blood. The underlying morals struck her as elitist bouergoise fantasies and as for slayer types, they tended to be bombastic, macho reactionaries. Then Gert had turned her on to something called 'World of Darkness' and she'd been immediately struck by the image of werewolves as righteous ecowarriors. Thus the sigil emblazoned in red on the back of her blacklongcoat, trimmed in (fake) fur. A cap with the same symbol pinned to the front added to the outfit's seeming militance, her red hair flaring out under it. Poking out of it were unexpectedly cute little dog ears, another nod to the theme.
Her hand was intertwined with Dizzy's. At the door she paused, took a deep breath and stopped through.
Dizzy hardly seemed so militaristic. In fact, she went the vampiric route, given most of her closet mostly reflected things like that anyways. She's had an outfit saved for just such an occasion (complete with tiny decorative bat wings), letting her hair fall back fully. Sure, its frills and extraneous pink might have flashed rather thoroughly with Kallen's rough and tumble wolf look, but she thought that was perhaps what made it so special.
A girl like Dizzy and a girl like Kallen... who'd have thought, right? Still, she was more than happy to just be here with Kallen. She didn't care if people tended to stare at girls like them. She just felt... loved like this.
Several things were actually going through Kallen's mind. First was how different this was from the events Rufus had dragged her to. She didn't have to hide behind a smokescreen of snark with Dizzy
( ... )
Dizzy could tell there was a great deal more than simply 'nothing at all', but she also knew this was hardly the place to pry. But Kallen really did seem nervous, and she'd have to do her best to calm the other. Perhaps petting her... what with the wolf motif and all. Ah well.
"Just thirsty for now. I'm not terribly hungry," she mentioned, being honest about it. Part of her wanted to hold off on eating anything until AFTER she was out of her corset. That thing just became painful if she ate too much while wearing it.
"As you wish, my princess." She said and bent to kiss her hand before finding the punch bowl (very carefully not making eye contact with the bald boy) and pouring some of the punch into one of the cheap plastic cups, covering her nervousness with effusiveness. She tested it to make sure it hadn't been spiked yet, then handed it to her.
"D-do you see anyone you know?" None of Kallen's friends were here...not that there were a whole lot of them in the first place. The music began to start up in earnest...
"Ah, well, a few people. Misuzu and Nina and a few others. How about you?" she asked Kallen, though she didn't exactly expect a positive answer. She was sort of the inverse of Dizzy's social butterfly tendencies. Still, she at least knew some of the guys on the football team, right?
She took a sip from the punch, letting out a refreshed sigh. It seemed to be mostly peach in flavor, one of her favorites! Quite nice when chilled properly. Mr. Ukitake really did go all out this year...
She was about to answer in the negative when she spotted Zack across the room happily chatting with his date. She offered a hesistant wave. Oh and there was Vegeta, to whom she offered an enthusiastic thumbs up to his obvious discomfort. He could never know she'd voted for him...It would absolutely destroy the dynamic between them.
The DJ had moved through MGMT's Electric Feel (barely scraped past the censors, with its suggestive lyrics and jungle beat) and was finishing up The Apez Dirty Harry (repeating through her head: Remember when we used to dance...all wanna do is dance...) and was a third through Like a Prayer (which was never going to stop being played at high school proms) when Kallen had finally figured out how she was going to do this. She would prepare her one way and then completely surprise her at the next song. "D...Would you like to dance?"
Dizzy had just been enjoying the music and the feel of Kallen's company. She was expecting this to be much like any other dance for her, though she was very happy to witness something this fanciful at all. It was like witnessing a dream... someone else's dream...
That was, until Kallen asked that question.
Would she... like to dance? She'd never heard that question directed to her in her entire life. Not once did she ever EXPECT to hear it. It was impossible, even if it was one of her only wishes. To dance with Kallen?
...she didn't know what to say.
She just turned to the other girl with a look of clear stun.
That look told her Dizzy had figured it out. Ok nevermind the subtle approach. Was never really good at that anyway. Kallen gave a small nod, waiting for Dizzy's answer. But what if she's nervous or that would be embarrasing or she'd find that patronizing or something or...
Kallen nervously stretched, hoping for the best, looking for space.
"I...," she started, trying to form a thought in response to that question. Maybe Kallen didn't understand just how much weight that simple question had on her. Maybe she did, on the other hand. Dizzy couldn't be certain.
"Er, well, Ni...I had an idea." Here goes nothing... She bent forward wrapping her arm under Dizzy's until her hand wrested at the small of her back. "I'm pretty strong...maybe not as strong as you. But definitely strong enough for this." She said, waiting for her assent.
She intended to carry her like that? To bear both their weights so that they could share that moment? Dizzy felt... touched. As she clung gently to Kallen's shoulders, she could already feel small tears welling in her eyes. This was her dream finally coming true. To share a dance with the person she loved...
"I'll put my faith in you, then. I love you... And I will have this dance."
There was a moment where she considered weights and balances. Here was where her training began to come into play. She pulled up and back, straightening her legs and back to clear Dizzy of the chair. There was a moment where she was afraid she would fall, but she recovered, kicking the chair out of the way with the foot sweeping motion of de-ashi-harai.
Kallen took a moment to stabilize and make sure of space then spun, taking them both in a wide circle...
Dizzy didn't tense. She put her full trust and faith in the other girl, smiling warmly as she was swept away. She couldn't help but let out a gleeful giggle as she was twirled by Kallen. Her dress seemed fit for that sort of movement, creating an almost flower like effect when she moved.
She pulled herself closer, holding on to Kallen as a lover should. Her first dance... it would be as romantic as she dreamed it to be.
Well. This was rather...close. And people were looking. She felt a small blush spread across her cheeks in spite of herself as she whirled with Dizzy, the ends of her dress and Kallen's coat flaring behind them. Canon in D came on, which was exactly the right song for this. She held Dizzy up with the exact same lift below her center of gravity she would use to hurl someone else to the ground. A talent for destruction now a creative talent...For creating...for...
All the rush of fighting for what she believed in. The running, the screaming, the adrenaline high of a tournament...Nothing could compare to this feeling.
Ok. It was love. Love that was gloriously and unapologetically different and other, that wasn't a traditional teen romance (and thus was in a way exactly a teen romance). She allowed herself to admit that. Softly and to herself was her admittance. Didn't want to give the rest of the football and kendo teams heart attacks.
She couldn't help the feeling as if she were floating. Lifted on the wind that was Kallen's gentle strength, she felt completely at ease. The violins built as if to be the choir of air around her as she flew. A sensation of flight... how novel right? And yet still, it touched her deeply to finally ecperience this.
It really was love. Only love could make her soar this high. The rest of the world just sort of... turned off. Only Kallen, herself, the music, and the dance remained. She'd have to thank Pachelbel in Heaven at some point... the gentle rolling of the Canon couldn't have been a better setting for this.

Damn the torpedoes. Or the stares.
