WHO: Nia, Tron Bonne, Kamina, OPEN
WHAT: Last episode, Nia made a crucial discovery: She doesn't know the first thing about cooking, and it's much harder than she expected! To educate herself, she takes a trip to the library, enjoying a few distractions along the way.
WHEN: August 16, 2008
WHERE: Clairbourn

Nia was starting to slowly get accustomed to the heat. It wasn't as bad as it was in Maui, and it's a much nicer dry sort of heat rather than the smothering mugginess of the tropics. The warm winds felt good on her bare legs when it blew through her sundress, and the mist from the lawn sprinkles settled comfortably on her sandal-clad feet. It was a beautiful day for a walk, and walks were something she'd come to appreciate. She was hardly allowed outdoors back home, and it felt wonderfully liberating to roam the neighborhood, stretching her legs, and drowning herself in the fresh air and all the good smells of the summer flowers.

Another camelia blossom had been plucked and tucked just behind her ear into the soft clouds of billowing pale curls.

For most people, walking to the library took about fifteen minutes. For Nia, it took much longer. Naturally she had to enjoy the sensation of petting a cat when the neighbor's pet began winding itself around her ankles, mewing pitifully. She'd only seen cats in picturebooks, so she enjoyed the experience thoroughly. The only hitch came when she tried to leave, and the cat began to follow. So, after alerting her neighbor to come retrieve his kitty so she could continue her adventure, she set down the sidewalks once more.

Then she spotted a trio of children in bathing suits, darting in and out of a sprinkler. There were no blank stares when she stepped up to the gate and asked if she might try it, and no warnings that she would get her dress wet. Soon she was leaping through the arches of mist and water droplets, laughing whole-heartedly.

Once more she set out, the sun warm on her dampened skin as she wrung out her hair and cheerfully walked forward. How fun! She'll have to ask Kamina if he has such a thing for their lawn, as the grass seems a little 'crispy.' ~Okay, no more distractions!~ she told herself semi-firmly, beaming from ear to ear. ~I'm on a mission. I must earn my keep, and that means I need to find a book that will teach me how to cook!~

The laughter of children again turned her head, and she beheld one of the most beautiful and fascinating things of all time.

A playground.
