Kula was walking down the hall as usual, smiling brightly as she made her way to her locker which, coincidentally, wasn't far from where Lelouch and Nina were talking to each other. She was rather blissfully unaware of their presence, at least until she was done swapping the books between her locker and her bookbag. Looking up, she noticed the exchange, and leaning just into view, waved at Lelouch, hoping to catch his attention.
Why he was talking to Nina was beyond her - they seemed to be mutually antagonistic... then again, Nina was antagonistic with most everyone. She hoped that Nina wasn't being too mean, and stepped a little closer to try and listen in.
"Lelouch" caught Kula in his eye and without any thinking at all something clicked...the wager...He put on a smile and gave a wave in return, breaking from "Nina" to go speak with the girl. He gave a slight bow and took her hand, pressing a kiss to it. Too perfect...
"It is wonderful to see you today, Kula!" he spoke, his voice well disguised from years of experience.
Kula was a little taken aback by the gesture, even if it was fitting for someone like Lelouch. She suppressed a blush and, instead, nodded slightly in acknowledgment. "Likewise, Lelouch. I just happened to be nearby, and thought I would say hello! We haven't gotten much chance to talk this past week."
She looked off toward Nina. "Is Miss Nina being troublesome?"
"Go for it, Lulu. Maybe getting laid for once in your furtive, miserable little life will keep you from getting a stiffy every time you challenge someone to chess or" "Nina" paused to give a dramatic shudder "Magic: the Gathering."
And so "Nina" sashayed off, though "she" took a route around the corridors that would enable her to observe the hilarity without being seen.
"Lelouch" growled under his breath and gave "Nina" an obscene gesture from some country no one has ever heard of. Of course, he lightened back up once turning back to Kula.
"As troublesome as ever, as you can see. But enough talk of her. What are you doing next weekend?" he said with as sincere a smile as he could manage.
Kula scowled after Nina, though she quickly broke into a giggle at Lelouch's gesture. She'd have to look that one up when she got home - it looked like something European in origin, but...
She was surprised at his question. "Huh? N-next weekend? I... don't think I have any plans..." She dug into the pocket of her bookbag, fishing out a glittery blue-and-purple planner, flipping it open. "Um... um, if this is..." She muttered to herself. "...no, I don't have any plans or anything." She closed it, looking back to Lelouch. "Why do you ask?" She fought back another blush. He must just be curious, or maybe starting a study group, or perhaps some sort of event, but not...
"Lelouch" brushed his bangs back and gave a nervous chuckle, forcing a blush. Well...only partially forced. But for now she was playing a part, and wouldn't let those sort of things get in the way.
"Well, I wanted to...ask you out, Kula Diamond," he said, laughing again, just as jittery.
Kula was stunned. Her blush couldn't be contained this time. "Aah~" She gasped, her hand falling lightly against her chest. "Y-you... you mean, on a date?" It took her a few moments to calm the butterflies that suddenly erupted into her stomach, but the fact that Lelouch seemed as nervous as she did helped.
"I'll... have to ask my parents if it's okay... I mean, to go on a real date." She dug her toe against the floor. "But... ah... I think I might like that." She let a smile play on her lips. "Did you... have something particular in mind?"
"Y-You mean you'll have me!" he said with excitement, smiling brightly. Joy of joys, she thought. This was almost too easy. And what a skilled actress she was. "Lelouch" fidgeted about happily, almost dancing with excitement.
He did a bit of a flourish when presenting the idea for his date. "Theatre, my dear Kula! 'Damn Yankees' to be exact!"
"Theatre... I'd like that." Her smile widened, as Kula started swaying in glee, trying to keep herself in check (and failing miserably). "I've never seen 'Damn Yankees,' come to think of it." Her cheeks were still tinted with red. "I mean, I'll still have to ask, but... I don't think it'll be a problem!" She nodded excitedly. "I'll ask them the moment I get home from school!"
"Ah! Excellent!" he exclaimed, taking her hand in both of his and grinning like an idiot. Oh this was TOO good, she thought. Like shooting fish in a barrel...now to set up the other part of the plan.
"You know...," he looked about, checking if "Nina" was still eavesdropping. "If you really want to know what kind of trouble Nina is causing, she's the one that put me up to this...I mean, not that I wouldn't have anyways, but...I think she might be 'jealous' of me...or something equally stupid," he snickered.
Kula's blush lit up anew at the touch. She was somewhat ashamed of herself, but at the same time, was too excited to care all that much.
"Put you up to...?" Her eyes scanned over Lelouch's face, a little concerned at the statement. So he wasn't... no, he himself had said that he would have asked her anyways... "Oh... what do you mean, 'jealous?' You think she..." Kula hearkened back on a very brief exchange they had in one of the chatrooms, where Nina had commented that she probably wouldn't be bothered by her company. "...oh my." Her other hand went to her mouth as she looked positively surprised.
"I'm telling you, she's a total closet case. It's no wonder she gets along with Dizzy so well. I mean, how else can a girl like her tolerate a person like Dizzy?" he laughed, noting Kula's blush.
"That's..." She took a deep breath before furrowing her brows at Lelouch a little. "There's nothing wrong with that... if that's really the case. Besides, maybe Nina just... wishes she could be happy like Miss Dizzy is." Her eyebrows relaxed a little as she realized that he probably hadn't meant that as bad as it had sounded. "I'm... I'm sorry, I didn't mean to sound angry." She bowed a little in apology. "But... jealous? Why?"
Now now, how to put this? There were so many ways to go about it. She had to be careful with his words. What would Lelouch say? Perhaps something extremely snarky...but...this was Kula he was talking to.
"Well...I guess after she saw us dance together at the Masq, she started to realize that she cares for you? I have no idea really. I had no idea you and her had even spoken before."
"Only in passing. We've... never really gotten along." Kula offered a small smile. "For obvious reasons, which is... a shame. She doesn't seem as angry and spiteful as she acts. She just seems very... well, sad." She let out a long sigh.
"Maybe I should try talking to her again sometime..." She leaned her head a little towards Lelouch. "If she... cares, perhaps someone trying to show her some caring, or at least kindness in return... maybe it would do her some good." Her smile widened slightly. "What do you think?"
