Well, technically, it is not a new hobby. However, it is something that I have been wanting to do for quite sometimes. I am hoping that during this year, I can learn to play piano/keyboard with both of my hands.
I know how to play the piano/keyboard, with my right hand, that is. It's a long story, but back when I learned the keyboard, I just never learn how to play it with both of my hands. I never even learned the cords. So while I can read the score for the right hand, I never know how to read the bass staff or how to use my left hand.
Then I found out that Rock Band 3 added keyboard as one of the instrument. I was so thrilled because there is the potential that I can finally join in and pretend that I know how to play some of the songs on rock band. So I got Lewis to give me a keyboard for Christmas.
Turned out that trying to play the keyboard with both hands requires not only the ability to read the sheet music, but also a high degree of hand-eye coordination and coordination between your left and right hand. None of which I possessed. This is going to be a long year.
Another down side of getting a keyboard and actually practicing regularly is that now I have been visiting various sites to look for sheet musics of the artists I love. I am already planning on grabbing my sheet musics for Les Miserables the musical when I made it home to Atlanta later this year. I also found the sheet music for the Japanese band Glay, X Japan, and Zard. Then there is this seller on ebay who sells whole bunch anime and gaming sheet music. So far, I got sheet music for Detective Conan, My Neighbor Totoro, Final Fantasy I to X2, and One Piece. I also have the sheet music for Gackt. There are, however, tons of sheet music (mostly from Japan) that I want to get. Given how much it is to get the thing mailed from Japan to the US, I can see where I will be spending the bulk of my money for this year.
However, my quest is not entirely fruitless. For the past two months, I have managed to learn how to play "Memories" from One Piece and the beginning of the "Theme of Love" from Final Fantasy IV. Hopefully with time, I will be able to learn more.
Go Judy!!!
