Poor Lincoln feels guilty and tries to make what they do sound 'less bad', but he's a bit delusional, isn't he.
I've always seen Michael as the one more likely to go too far whatever the matter is; it would show in this aspect of their relationship too. Not to mention that Lincoln being the older one, the burden of guilt is probably heavier on him.
