I liked season 2 much more. In season 1 I was mostly busy pondering how much a lot of the characters annoyed me (Henry, Anne, that hot friend of Henry's who marries his sister). For me it got much more interesting in season 2 where Henry and Anne start their descent.
However, if you don't enjoy the intrigue part, I'm not sure whether you would enjoy season 2 much more. I mean, I couldn't tell you whether there is much intrigue in season 2 because I didn't really notice it or look for it.
Anyway, I thought season 2 was much better than season 1 and that even though they got rid of a lot of characters I liked, like queen Katherine or Wolsey or Thomas More (those are all historical).
In season 1 I was mostly busy pondering how much a lot of the characters annoyed me So it's not just me. That's a relief :p Watching a show and not really appreciating most of the main characters is no fun. I don't even like to dislike them, they just bug me. I spent a fair amount of the first season dreading the moment Queen Catherine would have to go. I liked her too. I'm not so sure that I liked Wolsey but he was definitely interesting.
Maybe I'll give season 2 a try nevertheless, out of curiosity.
I spent most of season 1 loathing Anne and Henry, thinking they were both annoying twist and bat actors. Also I kept wondering whether it was normal that I found the Catholic characters (like Catherine and Thomas More) much more than rest of the characters.
Of course I dreaded the moment when they had to get rid of Catherine for historical continuity reason.
That said, season 2 surprised me. To me it is much more entertaining than season 1. Probably because Henry and Anne are much more interesting during their descent rather than when the show seems to be trying hard to make them likable when they aren't really all that much.
I'd say give it a shot even if you didn't like season 1, because I too didn't really like season 1, but enjoyed season 2 much more. Maybe it's just better paced or something.
