For the first time yesterday,
cynodd and I actually planned well enough in advance that we, along with
crabbydragon, were able to watch 2-1/2 episodes of Doctor Who during Her Royal Tininess's nap! :-D They were, from series 2 (still
cjmr's and
d_84's DVDs): "Tooth and Claw", "School Reunion", and "The Girl in the Fireplace". HRT woke up during "The Girl in the Fireplace", but it worked out because it's about a pretty female French aristocrat in the 18th century whom the Doctor saves after making a dramatic entrance on a white stallion. HRT is in her Princess Phase, of course! (Last night, she was lamenting that they couldn't live in a pink house, while she sat in her little pink & purple chair wearing a pink T-shirt with flashing red lights that had a picture of Disney's Cinderella, Belle, & Ariel on it... *lol*)
After that, we went to a park to let HRT run down her batteries after the nap and to have a picnic. Unfortunately, it was extremely windy, making it cold and somewhat difficult to eat. So, we went back to the house to watch more Doctor Who: "Rise of the Cybermen", "The Age of Steel", and "The Idiot's Lantern". HRT noisily played with LEGO-type blocks until she requested to watch Scooby Doo on the portable DVD player, then
cynodd started to play with the blocks instead, although she was a bit less noisy than HRT. *lol*
I really like all of these Doctor Who episodes from series 2, although "The Girl in the Fireplace" might be my favorite of them, since I'm still in my Princess Phase, too! :-P Actually, I liked the bittersweetness of it. :)
Of course, I watched "The Sontaran Stratagem" on the Sci-Fi Channel on Friday night. I thought it was pretty good. I liked how it ended with poisonous gas being released everywhere and the Doctor standing there in the fog of it, seemingly not knowing what to do. I was also pleased to see that Martha was engaged to that good-looking pediatrician, so she's no longer pining after the Doctor. :) I also thought it was funny that Donna called the Doctor a dunce after he thought, when she said she was going home, that she meant permanently. It was a nice juxtaposition with the Doctor speaking of his own intellectual brilliance in the previous scene. It was entirely within character, though - the Doctor is a genius, but somewhat emotionally stupid. What's up with the conclusion to this episode, "The Poison Sky", not being shown for 2 weeks, though? Is that smart, Sci-Fi Channel? I mean, it's already been shown in the UK several weeks ago and I'm sure I could find the whole episode on YouTube right now, if I really wanted to...
I'll end with this blurb from
Neil Gaiman's blog. In anticipation of David Tennant's portrayal of Hamlet for the Royal Shakespeare Company, he has written this spoof of the Doctor doing Hamlet:
"To be, or not to be, that is the question. Weeelll.... More of A question really. Not THE question. Because, well, I mean, there are billions and billions of questions out there, and well, when I say billions, I mean, when you add in the answers, not just the questions, weeelll, you're looking at numbers that are positively astronomical and... for that matter the other question is what you lot are doing on this planet in the first place, and er, did anyone try just pushing this little red button?"
