After posting last night, I headed to
choirgeek89's house to pick her up to go see Fiddler on the Roof at Ashland High School. It was raining, and I was thinking about big numbers, so I decided to figure out how many raindrops fell in Boston yesterday. Assuming a maximum raindrop size of 5mm (after that, they fall apart) and a vaguely spherical raindrop, I calculated that at least 90 trillion raindrops fell on Boston yesterday. I don't think you're going to be able to count them all.
Amusingly, looking at the weather records for yesterday, it turns out that it was a record rainfall for March 8, beating the old record set in 1933.
