I have. And let me tell you, it is possible to fall in love with someone who you have never met or talked to or interacted with or even been in the presence of.
Sam Bradley has claimed my heart.
I started listening to him, really listening, about a month ago. I began to love him a bit more each day, as I listened to the same 8 songs on Myspace and Youtube over and over again.
And then his EP came out, which I hastily bought the first day it came out. It's now Tuesday night, or early Wednesday morning, and it's all I've been listening to since Saturday morning. I adore the EP, it's absolutely fantastic. It has the perfect mix of heartbreaking, upbeat, and quirky. And amazingness, of course.
Earlier this evening was when it happened, when I finally fell completely in love with him. I was simply searching on Youtube, where I found a myriad of his videos. I watched one of the songs he sang, entitled "So What". I was entranced. I watched it 4 times straight in a row, unable to tear my eyes away. (This was a bit of a problem, given the school work that I had to complete) I don't even know what it was about the video. The song was excellent, but not my top, absolute favorite. And he was simply playing his guitar in a room, alone, rocking out to the music.
Further, I don't know what it is about Sam Bradley. I mean, I love his voice, his style, his stage presence, his personality. But I love all of these things about other people as well.
I cannot honestly distinguish what it is about him that has...enraptured me. But he has completely taken me. I am truly enamored with this man. This is really the first time this has ever happened to me. I love many bands, singers and artists, but my adoration for Sam Bradley has surpassed them all.
I've been bringing my iPod everywhere with me lately, so I can always listen to his music. I always have his Myspace up when I'm on the computer, and it always ends up being my main focus, instead of the secondary as I originally intended.
I watch the video of his cover of "No Diggity", which I think is what originally snagged me in the first place, probably 10 times a day.
And his music is very simple, very clean. Though he does perform with his band, The Men, which involves guitar, bass, and drums, much if his material is simply vocals and guitar up to this point. (The EP is with the band) I usually don't go only for the guitar/vocals combo, it's too boring. Give me John Mayer, and I scoff at you because I hate John Mayer. (I should specify, I am referring to old John Mayer. New John Mayer is better, though I sill don't like him.) Give me Jason Mraz and I leave the room, because Jason Mraz, quite frankly, freaking sucks.
But Sam is different.
And he's really inspired me as well. Actually, I think he's sort of given me a good kick in the freaking pants. I've never written poetry or song lyrics, I've always seen them as too intimidating. I do write various types of prose however, so I do have experience in writing. Singing is my favorite thing in this world, and I usually just make up a melody and ad-lib some lyrics off the top of my head. I can create a melody, but I always assumed lyrics were out of my league. But they're really not. I've taken to writing in the past few days, just random sets of 4 lines or so, because I can expand and splice them together. So yeah, I feel encouraged to write lyrics now and it's great. Singing as a career or side job has always been a far-fetched dream of mine, but I feel like I'm really helping this dream by creating and composing now, so I have material to work with.
Alright, now I just feel like I'm being slobbery and gooey and gross. It's not often that I go completely gaga over someone, admit that I am gaga over them, and not even be ashamed that I am gaga over them. You can blame that all on Sam Bradley.
So here some links, and I strongly urge you to check it out. If you don't like it at first, keep listening to it. I admit, I wasn't too crazy about it in the beginning, but oh how that has changed.
