I tend to agree with Eco's position on conspiracy theories (cf. Foucault's Pendulum).

...And I'm not a huge fan of the position conspiracy theorization as a practice has in American culture as a way of reinforcing the American narrative of protagonized victimhood (same reason I think South Park sucks-the fat kid and Kenny are the only necessary protagonists). Of course the True American People require a vast, multinational hypercomplicated plot to enslave them. Of course they're just a quick bullet-point mantra away from personal actualization and an all-embracing hassle free social organization. It's not like they'd be stupid enough to just keep doing the same bullshit that everyone else on the planet does, day in and day out, right? It's not like social justice takes actual hard daily work and constant reevaluation of habits and self, right? So obviously when stuff sucks, it's because of teh evils.
