Soon Melbourne will be known for its crappy taxis and become the butt of all bad taxi jokes.
I caught a taxi to the airport and the driver took a pretty big detour to the freeway. But also more importantly he was slapping himself to stay awake.
Last year I had a driver that in a right turn lane, with blinkers blazing, waiting for the lights to change, and when they did he just drove straight. He also didn't know where South Yarra was. He was saying he had to go to school all day and then drive a taxi all night, which wasn't very reassuring.
It's interesting that all the drivers are Indian students now. Dad was saying they used to all be Vietnamese. It makes sense that I had a nice experienced Vietnamese driver last year. In 10 years time we might be associating Indians with experienced taxi drivers.
I guess it's the taxi companies who should be blamed for taking on massive numbers of inexperienced student drivers. They should at least tell them to get a bit more sleep...
